Many of Andreas’ closest friends are involved in the arts, leading to a frequent overlap of his social and professional lives. Not content to view exhibitions, he has become involved in planning and hanging exhibitions and installations.
Andreas is Chair of Trustees of Art beyond Belief,an Arts Council-funded interfaith arts provider working with young people on remand, young people with behavioural problems or suffering from domestic violence. He has recently been asked to be a judge, alongside Duncan Robinson (Fitzwilliam Museum), Alan Greave (Jerwood Foundation) and Madelaine Ponsonby, Countess of Bessborough, of a nationally adjudicated sculpture competition.
A keen musician, he likes to make and listen to live music, and is as happy singing madrigals with a scratch choir of friends or family as in a concert hall. Andreas has been singing the music of J.S. Bach since he was a treble boy chorister and hasn’t tired of it yet. He enjoys opera, especially Mozart’s collaborations with da Ponte, and commissioned a children’s opera, The Adventures of Badir Basim with a libretto by his wife for performance by a local education action zone primary school in his previous parish.
When he manages to get away from Cambridge, Andreas likes to hike around mediterranean and Middle Eastern archaeological sites (including the inside of the ruined aquaeduct of Qumran, above). When travelling with his wife Katherine, he is more likely to advocate the services of Eurostar in search of continental cuisine, church architecture and café culture.
Interests
Andreas enjoys people, travelling and the creative arts. He is happiest inviting friends over to listen to jazz with inspiring conversation and a glass of wine, singing in a concert, or introducing new people to new places and new ideas.
